After my fourth interview with a University level student in the UAE abusing Lyrica, I began to do my own research.

Lyrica is a prescription painkiller with a schedule V classification similar to codeine.

Pregabalin, marketed under the brand name Lyrica among others, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorder.

By 2014 it was one of the 10 most prescribed drugs in America.

It’s now being abused by University Level students in the UAE, sometimes along with crystal meth, despite the potential physical harm and the strict prohibition of such both culturally and legally.

The medicine is listed as a banned drug in list No. 8, Article No. 65 of the Federal Law No. 14 and its amendments regarding anti-narcotics and psychotropic substances. (per Emirates 24/7 blog).

Lyrica abuse may bring about drowsiness and dizziness, loss of bodily control, irritability, blurry vision, fatigue, poor coordination, vomiting, impaired memory and tremors. One could also have suicidal thoughts, develop pancreatitis or experience a dangerous change in blood pressure.
