Alkaline Diet: a Treatment of Fibromyalgia

Could you ever notice that one of the triggers to your fibromyalgia is your diet? Your body always tries to maintain the balance of alkaline/acid. Many diseases and other issues can occur due to excess acid.

This is the basis that if you are sick, you should especially maintain a healthy alkaline food diet. For your diet, you should follow the 20/80 rule that means 20% acid and 80% alkaline, especially to those who have fibromyalgia.

Your diet has a key role in fibromyalgia, either to trigger it or stop the pain. Although, there isn’t any cure or cause of fibromyalgia discovered yet. But researchers do agree upon the fact that fibromyalgia flare-ups can become better by a healthy alkaline diet. If your symptoms get better, you should try to see the following seven steps:

Getaway the food triggers

You first need to determine your diet and try to examine the foods that lead to digestive issues. According to the National Fibromyalgia Association, almost 40% of fibromyalgia sufferers report that they also suffer from irritable bowel issues and sensitivity to a food that causes some symptoms like headaches, diarrhea, and intestinal pain.

MSG, shrimp, caffeine, eggs, food coloring, yeast, dairy products, sugar or aspartame, milk, chocolate, and citrus are some common food triggers. Most of these foods are supposed to be acidic according to alkaline food charts.

In 2010, a study was conducted in Dijon, France at Burgundy University that showed the symptoms and signs of fibromyalgia lessened when aspartame was eliminated from diets. The reason is that MSG and aspartame are considered to be neurotransmitter tonics.

Eating more turkey

Amino acids often called tryptophan are contained in turkey as well as in some other foods. Depression and chronic fatigue (common fibromyalgia symptoms) can be controlled by this chemical. In a study of 2007, around 2596 people having fibromyalgia revealed the showing of 40% of people suffering from these symptoms.

This chemical is not naturally produced in your body. You have to get it through the food. Your body can’t be able to produce neurochemical serotonin if your body doesn’t possess tryptophan. Serotonin boosts up your mood and creates melatonin that helps you in sleeping well. That’s why serotonin is referred to as the “happy hormone”.

If you intake more tryptophan-containing foods into your diet, you can fight the fatigue of fibromyalgia. Eggs, yogurt, nuts, soy, and turkey are included in these foods. These foods also have tyrosine that helps in boosting the norepinephrine and dopamine levels in the brain that assists in alertness, along with tryptophan. Fibro fog can also b removed by these tyrosine foods.

This nutrient is found in sardines and organ meats. Studies show that almost 40% of patients have a deficiency of CoQ10, due to which they experience pain and fatigue. Almost 30% of the patients reported having less pain, after taking 300 mg of it every day for 9 months.

Have a balanced pH

Your inflammation can be reduced if you consume more alkaline foods. If you consume too many acidic foods like butter and bread, it will cause fatigue, migraines, and diarrhea. However, the taste has nothing do to with the alkalinity or acidity of foods. The effects of it are digested matters.

The hydrogen ions from the body are removed by citrus fruits, as these fruits are considered to be alkaline. Whereas, butter and sugar are considered to be acidic, as hydrogen ions are added to the body after taking them.

Flours, margarine, lobster, butter, bread, cashews, hazelnuts, and red meats are included in acidic foods. However, watermelon, nectarine, honeydew, raspberry, lime, cantaloupe, sea vegetables, broccoli, tangerine, daikon radish, onion, garlic, collard greens, lentil, and even pumpkin seeds are included in alkaline foods.

Alkaline water is also good for you, as it helps un bring balance to your body’s pH.
